Crafted in the 12th century, this tower is dedicated to Lord Adinathji, the 1st Jain Tirthankar. One of the largest monuments situated inside the massive Chittorgarh Fort, the Rana Kumbha Palace was at a heightened glory during its time. This was once a royal residence to people like Bappa Rawal, Maharana Kumbha, Rani Padmani, Meera Bai among others. This palace also tells the tales of legend Panna Dhai, who saved the life of infant Udai Singh by sacrificing her own child. The dungeons of this palace are supposed to be the place where Rani Padmani and other women of the palace committed johar. This large water reservoir is named after a rock formation located in the edge of the cliff side that resembles the mouth of a cow, hence justifying the name. As per the legends, the tank is considered sacred by the locals since it has never gone dry. An idol of Goddess Laxmi and Shivaling is placed beneath were the waterfalls. A big Ganesh idol, a fountain, manifold crystal objects, and different frescoes adorn the grounds of this palace, which make it worth seeing once. #8 Sita Mata Wildlife Sanctuary – An abode of the fauna

Apart from the fort and the palaces inside, Chittorgarh has a Sitamata Wildlife Sanctuary that you can visit. It was only declared a wildlife sanctuary in the year 1979. Various flora like teak, tendu, bamboo, amla and salar along with countless fauna such as the flying squirrel, spotted deer, wild bear, four-horned antelope, nilgai, jungle cat, jackal, hyena, caracal wild boar, leopards, wild pangolin can be spotted here. scattered over an area of 423 sq.kms, the Jakham and Karmoi Rivers flow through the sanctuary. As per the legends, Sita, the wife of Lord Ram, is said to have inhabited the ashram of Saint Valmiki in this forest during her separation from Lord Ram and hence justifies the name of this place. For a mere price of Rs.10 you can enter the sanctuary between 8am to 5pm. To reach this destination, you can either book a private cab or rent one or if traveling in your personal vehicle then take the route from Pratapgarh via Udaipur-Pratapgarh road.

#9 Bassi Wildlife Sanctuary

This sanctuary about 25kms away from the city of Chittorgarh and is worth a visit. The calm and peacefulness that you will seek is beyond words. You will get to see trees like dhok, salar, churel, butea and also animals like panthers, chitals, wild boars, hyenas, jackals, four-horned antelopes among others. You will find complete solitude amidst this nature’s paradise where you will hear terrifying but soothing sounds of the birds. The Bassi Dam is also another attraction nearby.
