Kaziranga National Park Named after a Legendary Woman – Kajir Ronghangpi.
According to Old Folklores, She was the daughter of King Hok Ronghangpi, Kajir was said to be a highly divine being, and when Kajir was young she was taken to the abode of gods & she was said to be brought up by the gods and goddesses , Later to find her fathers and brother, she came back down to earth, and along with she brought her cute friends
“Kindus” – now known as Rhinos. Once Kijir rebuilt the land in and around
”Kajir – a -rong” today known as KAZIRANGA, Later, She went back to the abode of gods, but left her friends – kindus behind to keep the soil tilled and fertilized.
A glimpse of Kaziranga’s History
Initially in the Year 1908 Kaziranga was reserved as a forest area when India was still under British Influence. Later, in 1916 It went on to be a designated Game and Wildlife Sanctuary. Post Independence, in the year 1974 – Kaziranga was officially named as a National Park & In the year 1985, Kaziranga National Park Gained its UNESCO World Heritage Site Declaration.

Flora & Fauna In Kaziranga National Park
Kaziranga National Park is home to animals like one Horned Rhino, Bengal Tigers, Elephant, Wild Buffalo, Swamp Deer, Wild Boar & More than 400 Species of Birds. Kaziranga National Park also Houses 15 different species of India’s threatened mammals. Over 13 Different types of Turtles and tortoises. More than 16 Species of Snakes, Over 10 Species of Lizards. And many Small animals & Insects. Famous Crocodiles – Gharials are also found at Kaziranga National Park.
How to reach Kaziranga National Park :
By Rail : The closest railway station to Kaziranga National Park is located at a distance of 75-80 Kms, Called as “Furkating” Frequent trains are available from Furkating to Guwahati Junction,
By Road : Kaziranga National Park is situated in the small town of Kohora, Which has good road connectivity from Major cities like – Guwahati. Jorhat, Tezpur, etc. Frequent buses run by public and private transport service providers are available. Asides Buses, Cabs/Taxis are also available on hire basis.
By Air : Jorhat Airport is the closest Airport to Kaziranga National Park, At a distance of Approx. 90 Kms. The Second Closest airport is the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport/ Guwahati International airport. Located at a distance of Approx. 270 Kms.
Best time to Visit
The Best time to Visit Kaziranga National Park is during the Months of October to April, As winter is the best suitable time to explore the Park.
Kaziranga National Park is non operational for tourists during the months of Summer and Monsoon, Starting from April to October. To Protect the Flora, Fauna & Tourists from the Extreme Flooding of Brahmaputra during the months of monsoon and Protect the Animals during summers.

Elephant safari Takes place in the morning between 5 Am to 7 Am, The elephant safari is a 1 Hour Safari.

Jeep Safari Operates between 7 Am to 5 Pm and it lasts for 2 Hours.
There are various gates to enter from and they all vary in cost. There are 4 Entry Gates for Safari in Kaziranga National Park.
The most preferred zones for Jeep Safari at Kaziranga National Park are
– Central Zone and Western Zone.
