1- Black tip Reef Shark in Maldives

One of the most commonly found species of shark, These Majestic Sea Beasts are grown not more than 2 Mtrs. Easy to distinguish as they have Blacktip Fins. Hence the Name, “Black tip reef Shark “. They are a relatively small and slender shark, and are considered to be one of the most graceful sharks in the ocean they are also known to be opportunistic feeders, preying on a variety of fish, crustaceans, and mollusks. Despite their reputation as aggressive predators, Blacktip Reef Sharks are not considered to be a significant threat to humans.

2 – Tiger Sharks in Maldives

Not – So – Friendly & Not – so – Easily – Spotted – The Tiger Sharks , Famous for their aggressive Traits, Known to attack humans, Growing up to a massive size of upto 6 Meters in Length. In Maldives, Tiger Sharks are known to be present in deeper waters, off the Atolls, and can be seen on occasions by divers. However, Tiger Sharks are not as common in Maldives as the Blacktip Reef Sharks. Tiger Sharks in Maldives are considered to be one of the most dangerous sharks to humans and are responsible for a small number of unprovoked attacks each year.

Their Characteristics include sharp teeth, Blue tinted skin and white belly. Having an appetite for almost everything and anything swimming near by them.

3- Whale Shark

The Largest Shark in Maldives is also the Largest fish in The Ocean.
The Gentle Giants of the ocean, They have a distinctive feature of white polka dot like pattern on Their Black/Gray Body.

Whale Sharks are found in tropical and warm waters around the world, including the Maldives, and they are considered to be a migratory species. They are often seen by divers and snorkelers in the Maldives during the months of April to December.

It is important to remember that when encountering a whale shark, one should always maintain a safe distance and avoid touching or riding on them

Their physical Appearance can be quite intimidating due to their size. Which can range from 2.5 Meters to 9 Mtrs on an average. But the Largest Whale shark Recorded was 18.8Mtrs.

4- Hammer Head Shark

Unusually Cute & Flat headed Scalloped Hammerhead sharks are habitually seen at the Felidhoo Atoll out of all the Diving spots with Sharks in Maldives.

These species vary in size, with the Great Hammerhead reaching up to 6 meters in length and the Scalloped and the Smooth Hammerhead reaching up to 4 meters.
Hammerhead sharks in Maldives are considered as a seasonal visitors, and can be seen from December to April. Divers will often encounter them around the channels and the cleaning stations.

Where one can witness them Swimming in Schoals. These sneaky Predators love to feed on Octopus the most, among other small fishes.

5- Zebra Shark

Famously Known as Zebra Sharks, they get their names from the Prominent stripped pattern on their body. These creatures are swift and Depth Dwellers, You can find them swimming close to the sea bed  or at a depth of 30 Meters or more. They are nocturnal animals and feed primarily on aquatic animals.

Zebra Sharks in Maldives are commonly found in the shallow waters around the coral reefs and atoll lagoons. They are often seen resting during the day and active at night, and can be observed by divers and snorkelers.

All in All Maldives is home to over 20+ Different varieties of Sharks and Other Aquatic Animals. It is important to remember that most of these shark species are facing population decline due to overfishing, shark finning, and loss of habitat, and it is important to be aware that these animals are vulnerable to habitat destruction and overfishing.
